Biography of Ms Jennifer Rawson

Ms Rawson was appointed Deputy Secretary in December 2014.

Before taking up her position, Ms Rawson served as First Assistant Secretary, Pacific Division. Prior to this, she led the DFAT-AusAID Integration Taskforce (2013 – 2014). Her previous positions in the department include First Assistant Secretary, South and West Asia and Middle East Division (2012-2013), First Assistant Secretary, Pacific Division (2010-2012) and First Assistant Secretary, International Security Division (2007-2010).

Ms Rawson has also worked in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID).

Overseas, Ms Rawson has served as Head of Mission in Suva (2003-2007) and Head of Mission in Nuku’alofa (1993-1995). She has had postings to Damascus, Harare, Wellington and Colombo.

Ms Rawson holds a Masters of International Law from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Melbourne University.
