The Surf Life Saving Association of Australia (SLS) has partnered with Shenzhen Surfing Association (SSA) to deliver lifeguard training programs for local volunteer lifeguards in the Shenzhen region, as part of an Australia-China Council-funded initiative.

The training program was followed by a graduation ceremony for around a dozen SSA volunteer lifeguards, as well as  formalisation of an MOU between the two surfing associations.  The event attracted high-level local government participation, including District Governor of Dapeng, HE Yongzhi and senior officials from the Shenzhen Bureau of Culture, Sport and Tourism.  Following the event, Governor HE encouraged Shenzhen and Dapeng District governments to support the initiative to enable the expansion of the lifeguard program as an important element of tourism development in the region.
