South Australia State Director, Mr Dave Gordge

Dave Gordge took up the position of Director of the South Australia State Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in November 2014, where he is responsible for managing DFAT’s engagement with its diverse local stakeholders, including the State Government and South Australia’s business and academic communities.

Mr Gordge is a career officer of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He has served overseas as Deputy Head of Mission in the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh (2011-13) and as Third Secretary, and later Second Secretary, in the Australian Embassy in Santiago de Chile (2004-06). In Canberra he has worked in a number of areas of the foreign affairs and trade portfolio, including on bilateral country relations (most recently as Assistant Director, India Political and Regional Section), multilateral issues (environment negotiations and counterterrorism), and consular issues.

Mr Gordge was awarded the Australian Services Medal in 2003 for his contribution as a civilian peace monitor on the island of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea.

Mr Gordge was born in Victoria and was educated in South Australia. A graduate of the University of Adelaide, he speaks Spanish, German, and Tok Pisin. 

He is married and has one son.
