DFAT Aid Evaluation Policy and Annual Evaluation Plan
ODE develops and maintains the Aid Evaluation Policy, the Annual Aid Evaluation Plan, and the department’s guidelines on managing program evaluations.
As outlined in the Aid Evaluation Policy, program evaluations are initiated and managed by program areas, such as country and sector programs. Each program undertakes an annual process to identify and prioritise a reasonable number of evaluations which they can use to improve their work, with larger programs expected to undertake more evaluations. Programs have flexibility to determine the highest priority issues their evaluations should focus on.
Each year, planned program evaluations are outlined in the Annual Aid Evaluation Plan.
Supporting program evaluations and evaluation capacity
ODE provides support for program evaluations and to strengthen DFAT’s internal evaluation capacity.
ODE connects program areas to resources that assist evaluation management. This includes:
ODE also offers support to evaluation managers conducting program managers. We do this by:
- providing advice;
- reviewing evaluation terms of reference, plans and reports;
- participating in reference groups; and
- on occasion conducting individual program evaluations.
