Where the Australian Civilian Corps works

Strategic priorities

The ACC has undertaken more than 180 deployments in over 20 countries since its establishment in 2011, totaling over 1,400 months of assistance. This has included electoral assistance (Papua New Guinea, including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Nepal), law and justice reform (Afghanistan, Philippines and South Sudan), and disaster preparedness, response and early recovery (Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu). The majority of ACC deployments have been in support of our neighbours in Asia and the Pacific.

Current deployments

Deployments undertaken by the ACC are listed below with information on the role and results.



Papua New Guinea: Election support

Support the PNG Electoral Commission to plan and deliver logistics support to national and local level government elections

Pacific (Vanuatu, Tonga, Samoa, Fiji): Disaster Risk Management

Assist national disaster management offices with cyclone season preparation and Disaster Risk Reduction in Vanuatu, Tonga, Fiji and Samoa

Samoa: Post-disaster recovery

Assist the Samoan Government to plan and deliver re-building of critical infrastructure, including schools and bridges, damaged or destroyed by Cyclone Evan

Myanmar: Conflict and stabilisation

Assist the development and implementation of various peace and development processes, including a livelihoods program and an early recovery and stabilisation program to improve reintegration of refugees and internally displaced people on the Thai-Myanmar border and within Myanmar.

Afghanistan: Stabilisation

Implement more than 450 small projects across Uruzgan Province as part of the Provincial Reconstruction Taskforce. Projects included wells, small water and sanitation projects, flood retaining walls and road culverts. Larger projects, such as a women's centre and community buildings, contributed to improving community connectivity

Syria / Turkey: Health administration

Coordinate primary health care for the people of northern Syria and managed and worked to prevent epidemic diseases with the Syrian Opposition Assistance Coordination Unit

Timor-Leste: National Disaster Management Directorate (NDMD)

Assist Timor-Leste's NDMD with a range of activities aimed at reorienting the role of the NDMD from a post-disaster relief provider to a disaster management and coordination office

Timor-Leste: Gender equity and equality (AFP)

Advise AFP's Timor-Leste Police Development Program to increase gender equality and representation and women's access to justice through community engagement

Lebanon: Conflict and stabilisation, and improving governance

Provide a range of support, including protection, livelihoods and resilience, and water, sanitation and hygiene

Vanuatu: Pacific Disaster Management Program

Supporting the Vanuatu National Disaster Management Office prior to Cyclone Pam and following the emergency response

Nepal: Election support

Support, through the UNDP, to the Election Commission of Nepal to deliver participatory, peaceful and credible elections

South Sudan: Law and justice advisers Assist the United Nations Mission in South Sudan to strengthen the justice system in South Sudan, with a focus on ending prolonged, arbitrary detention and establishing a safe, secure and humane prison system
