Pacific Humanitarian Leadership Scholarships

Supporting local leadership

With the severity and intensity of weather events increasing, the pressure on local disaster responders also increases. Disaster management managers with strong leadership skills are necessary to ensure national and at times international assistance is effectively delivered to the right people at the right time.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is encouraging people in the Pacific to apply for a scholarship to complete the on-line Humanitarian Leadership Course run by the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership, Melbourne Australia.

The scholarships were announced by the Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon. Julie Bishop on 19 August 2016.

The scholarships are dual funded by the Australian Government and IKEA Foundation. They will support disaster management leaders in the Pacific gain the necessary skills and expertise to assist disaster affected communities in times of need.
