Grant Program

General information

The Council provides funding through a competitive grants program for projects across Latin America and Australia. Projects need to be relevant to one or more of the following objectives:

The Council invites funding applications annually from individuals and organisations for projects that demonstrate the potential for the development of long-term links and cooperation between individuals and institutions in Australia and their counterparts in Latin America. Coalar grants are intended to provide seed funds for innovative proposals relevant to the goals and mission of the Council stated in the 2011–14 Strategic Plan.

The Council supports innovative projects that have clear outcomes and seek to ensure the benefits of such activities are spread as widely as possible across the following priority areas:

2014-15 Grant Program

The 2014-15 COALAR Grants Expression of Interest Round has now closed – Applicants selected to submit full Applications are currently being notified. Once this is completed all other applicants will then be advised of their EOI status.

There is a two-stage application process for the 2014-15 Grants Program. The first stage involves applicants submitting an Expression of Interest online. The Council Board then shortlists the successful applicants, who proceed to the second stage and submit a Full Grant Application.

Opening of COALAT 2014-2015 COALAR Grant round – Expressions of Interest invited 12 March 2014
Closing date for submitting expressions of interest 10 April 2014
Invitation to submit full grant applications to successful applicants and unsuccessful applicants notified Early June 2014
Closing date for selected applicants to lodge full applications Early July 2014
Unsuccessful applicants notified and successful applicants advised of grant allocation pending funding allocation for the 2014-2015 Financial Year* September 2014

*Funding for successful applications will be subject to the Council on Australia Latin America Relations receiving full funding from the Government as of 1 July 2014.

2013-14 Grant Program

The Coalar Grant program was approved by the Coalar Board on 22 August 2013. 

Funding totalling $389,000 (excluding GST) has been awarded to 14 projects across the priority areas of business, culture (including sport), education, sustainability and tourism. 

139 Expressions of Interest were received in the 2013-14 Grant Round seeking over $5.5 million.  30 projects were shortlisted for further consideration.
