Northern Territory Director, Lorenzo Strano OAM
Mr Lorenzo Strano has been a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) since 1991. He took up the position of Northern Territory Director of the DFAT office on 30 January 2014.
Mr Strano has served overseas as Deputy Consul-General at the Australian Consulate-General in Chicago (2011-2014), First Secretary and Consul at the Australian Embassy in Rome, Italy (2005-2008), Third Secretary and later Second Secretary at the Australian High Commission in Apia, Samoa (1999-2002) and Vice-Consul at the Australian Embassy in Vientiane, Laos (1994-1996). In Canberra Mr Strano has held a number of positions including in the passports, trade and business areas.
Mr Strano was awarded the Australian Services Medal in 1998 for his contribution as a truce monitor and later peace monitor on the island of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea. He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2003 for his work assisting families of the victims of the Bali bombings.
Born in Canberra, Mr Strano holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University.
Mr Strano is married with two children.
