The Hon Kevin Rudd MP
Minister for Foreign Affairs

The Hon Dr Craig Emerson MP
Minister for Trade

It is my pleasure to present to you the Annual Report of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for the financial year 2010-11.

The report has been prepared pursuant to section 63 of the Public Service Act 1999 and in accordance with the Requirements for Annual Reports as approved by the Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit on 8 July 2011. Subsection 63(1) of the Public Service Act 1999 provides that, after the end of the financial year, the Secretary of a department must give a report to ministers on the department’s activities for presentation to the Parliament.

This year, AusAID (Australian Agency for International Development) will transmit its own annual report as a result of the Executive Order commencing 8 July 2010 which established AusAID as an Executive Agency under the Public Service Act 1999.

In presenting the Annual Report, I acknowledge the Hon Mr Stephen Smith MP who served as Minister for Foreign Affairs during part of the reporting period. I also thank my colleagues in the department for their professionalism and dedication in advancing the interests of Australia internationally over the past year.

Yours sincerely
