The Australian pavilion at Expo 2000 in Hanover (June–October 2000) entailed considerable preparatory work by the department, and ministers were pleased with the initial attendance figures. By the end of June the number of visitors to the Australian pavilion was well over 500 000, more than 20 percent of all visitors to the Expo site. Ministers expressed considerable satisfaction with the preparation and outcomes achieved for Australia at the Expo, with Mr Vaile describing the number of visitors attracted to the pavilion as ‘an exceptional achievement’ during his visit to the pavilion in June.
