Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement

Fourth Round of Negotiations

The fourth round of Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) negotiations was held in New Delhi on 8-9 November. This round marked the start of intensive goods market access negotiations as well as substantive discussion on the full range of issues to be addressed in the text of the agreement.

Negotiations on the goods-related chapter texts – trade in goods, rules of origin and customs procedures – were constructive and good progress was achieved. A detailed discussion took place on each side's sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) and technical barriers to trade (TBT) regulatory regimes.

The fourth round was the first substantive engagement on services, with some progress achieved on chapter text. A discussion also took place on the process of exchanging services offers and requests. A discussion on investment continued to explore positions.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade encourages interested parties to lodge a submission on the Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement.
