Australian volunteers play a vital role in the fight against poverty and contribute to the Government’s public diplomacy objectives. Volunteering overseas is one way that Australians can make a positive contribution to poverty reduction, sustainable development and cross-cultural understanding. DFAT is currently working in partnership with Scope Global to deliver the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program in Cambodia.
Australian Volunteers are placed with host organisations, including non-government and civil society organisations, educational institutions and government departments. Australian volunteers are from a wide range of professions, with diverse skill sets and experiences and assignments range from three to 24 months.
In 2015-16, DFAT deployed 35 new volunteers to Cambodia.
