Implementing economic reforms in Kiribati


Australian support for the implementation of the Kiribati Government’s Economic Reform Plan will assist Kiribati to maximise the benefits flowing from its resources. In 2015–16, we will support extending the Kiribati Government’s economic reform agenda to the major spending ministries, education and health, to improve efficiency and service delivery.

Up to $1 million in 2015-2016

In 2016–17, Australia will support the Kiribati Government to:

  • Strengthen expenditure control to reflect better planning and financial discipline
  • Increase revenue through an expanded revenue base and improved compliance, including through fishing revenues
  • Improve state-owned enterprise oversight, management, service delivery and reduce costs
  • Improve aid effectiveness and alignment.
