Passport services

The Australian Passport Information Service (APIS) provides a telephone information service to callers in Australia in seven days a week.  APIS can be contacted by calling 131 232 between 8am and 8pm weekdays and 8.30 to 5pm weekends.   APIS is closed on New Year’s Day, Australia Day, Easter Monday, Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Passport application forms can be obtained from most Australia Post outlets, downloaded from the www.passports.gov.au, email requests to: passports.australia@dfat.gov.au or collected from any Australian Passport Office. 

To lodge an application an interview is required, and bookings for interviews can be arranged at an Australia Post outlet by phoning 131 318.  In certain circumstances applications and interviews can be conducted in the Passport office; however appointments are necessary and can be arranged by phoning 131 232.

The Tasmania Passport Office is located on Level 1, 111 Macquarie Street, Hobart.
The office counter business hours are 08:30 - 16:00, Monday to Friday (Interviews by appointment)
