Mr Andrew Byrne

Deputy Head of Mission, The Philippines

Biography

Mr Byrne is a career public servant with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He has been Deputy Head of Mission in Manila since August 2010.

Mr Byrne has previously served overseas in Singapore (2004) and Jakarta (2005-2008).

Before taking up his current role in Manila, Mr Byrne was Assistant Secretary Consular Policy Branch, a role in which he was responsible for DFAT's travel advisories and its response to international crises. Prior to that, he was Assistant Secretary, Canada and Latin America Branch. Mr Byrne has worked in the Departments of Transport, Defence, and Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Mr Byrne holds a Masters of Science (Strategic Studies) from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore; an Honours Degree (First Class) in Politics from Flinders University; and a Bachelor of Science from Flinders University. He is married with two children.
