Joint Statement on the Proposed Australia-Singapore Free Trade Agreement

Australia and Singapore will commence the second round of formal negotiations for an Australia-Singapore Free Trade Agreement in Canberra on 9 April.

The Australian delegation is led by Mr Donald Kenyon of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.  The Singapore delegation is led by Mr Vanu Gopala Menon from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

These negotiations follow the decision on 15 November 2000 by the two Prime Ministers that Australia and Singapore would negotiate a bilateral free trade agreement.  The first round of negotiations were held in Singapore in February this year, during which time both sides reaffirmed their commitment to conclude a mutually beneficial, comprehensive and substantive agreement before the end of the year.
