Media release from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
The Australian Government has decided to provide a second charter flight
out of Cairo to Frankfurt on Thursday 3 February.
Since the announcement of the first charter flight, more than 600
Australians have registered for evacuation assistance.
DFAT is attempting to contact all of those who have registered for
assistance to confirm their seats on the aircraft.
Given the challenging environment and instability of telecommunications in
Egypt, however, we encourage those who want to travel and have not been
contacted to call the DFAT Consular Emergency Centre on +61 2 6261 3305 (if
calling from overseas) or 1300 555 135 (if calling from within Australia on
behalf of someone in Egypt) to confirm they still wish to travel.
The first charter flight is scheduled to depart Cairo for Frankfurt on
Wednesday 2 February.
Those confirmed for this flight are advised to gather at 9am on Wednesday 2
February at one of two rendezvous points where they will be met by
Australian Government officials and transported to the airport.
The two rendezvous points are:
- Conrad Hotel (located next to the Australian Embassy)
- Novotel Hotel (located near to the airport)
Those taking up the charter option will be responsible for arranging their
own onward travel, but Australian Government officials will be available in
Frankfurt to assist travellers make arrangements.
Further details on advice for Australians wishing to depart Egypt is
available in the DFAT travel bulletin and Egypt travel advice (www.smartraveller.gov.au).
