Council for Australian-Arab Relations appointments

Minister Bishop has announced the appointment of three new Board Members to the Council for Australian-Arab Relations (CAAR).

Ms Dalene Wray

Ms Wray grew up in Birdsville, outback Queensland where her family’s cattle operations are based, and moved to Adelaide to complete her secondary and tertiary studies.

In 2004 Ms Wray joined OBE Organic, one of Australia’s largest producers of organic beef, and since then has undertaken numerous roles in the company. As Deputy General Manager based in Hong Kong, Ms Wray developed OBE Organic’s market presence in the Middle East (Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates) and Asia. She became General Manager in September 2012.

Ms Wray serves as an industry advisory group member for the Farm Cooperatives and Collaboration Pilot Program, and the Australian Organic Industry Working Group. Both are initiatives under the Government’s Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper.

Mr Wayne Borg

Mr Borg has been Managing Director of Fox Studios Australia since March 2014.

Immediately prior to this, from 2008 to 2014, he was Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer of the Abu Dhabi Media Zone Authority where his responsibilities included the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, Abu Dhabi Film Festival and Abu Dhabi Media Summit.

He has over twenty years’ experience in the media/entertainment, digital & events industries. Mr Borg is currently on the Board of Ausfilm Australia; a Screen Producers Australia Councillor and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

The Hon Dr Peter Hendy

Dr Hendy is presently running his own economic consultancy and is a company director.

Prior to this, from 2013 to 2016, he was the Member for Eden-Monaro in the Federal Parliament.  During this time he was Assistant Minister for Finance, Assistant Minister for Productivity, and  Assistant Cabinet Secretary.  When in Parliament he was the Convenor of the Parliamentary Friends of the United Arab Emirates.

Dr Hendy has also served as Executive Director of the Bahrain Economic Development Board, and as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
