CAAR Business Plan 2017-2018

Mission

To strengthen Australian-Arab relations by advancing areas of shared political, economic and social interest and building a greater appreciation of each other's cultures and values.

Objectives

The 2017-18 objectives for the Council for Australian-Arab Relations (CAAR) are to:

  • build on the success of the CAAR Flagship programs;
  • ensure that the CAAR grants program aligns with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Public Diplomacy agenda and regional priorities, and the CAAR's Strategic Plan;
  • develop a full calendar year of effective and engaging CAAR projects that recognise important regional/bilateral events or anniversaries; and
  • build strong community and international stakeholder relationships, including the Board identifying one major partnership for sponsorship.

Strategies

In 2017-18, the CAAR Board Members will:

  • promote the CAAR's profile through grass roots engagement, partnerships and social media, in order to increase awareness of the Council's work and to further its mission; and
  • promote the grants round to potential applicants that would:
    • represent a diverse cross-section of Australia and the Arab world;
    • recognise important bilateral or regional events/anniversaries; and
    • align with the Flagship Programs, and/or support collaboration between Australia and the Arab world in the sports and fashion sectors.

Resources

Board and Secretariat: There are seven Board members (Chair, Deputy Chair, five members and two ex officio members from DFAT and the Australian Trade Commission).  The Secretariat is based in the Middle East Branch of DFAT and comprises of a manager and program officer.
