Australia - Malaysia: Celebrating 50 Years

The year 2007 marks the 50th anniversary of Malaysia’s independence. Australia was one of fifteen countries to establish formal diplomatic relations with the Federation of Malaya soon after its independence on 31 August 1957.

Produced by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade with the support of the Australia-Malaysia Institute, Australia-Malaysia: Celebrating 50 Years chronicles some of the important events and achievements shared by Australia and Malaysia over more than five decades. This bilingual photographic publication highlights four areas of focus in the strong and wide-ranging bilateral relationship: the early years of Malaysia’s independence; defence; education; and contemporary relations.

Copies of this free publication can be requested from the Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore Section or the Australia-Malaysia Institute at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (e-mail address: ausmalaysia.institute@dfat.gov.au).
