The second round of Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement negotiations was held in Canberra on 17-18 November 2011.
Australia's delegation was led by Ms Jan Adams, First Assistant Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. India's delegation was led by Mr J. K. Dadoo, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce. Negotiations were divided into working groups on: Services and Investment; Goods; and Legal and Other Issues.
The Goods Working Group made progress on elements of a draft Chapter on Trade in Goods and enhanced understanding in other areas, including on procedures to advance goods market access discussions. The Services and Investment Working Group discussed the Chapter on Investment proposed by India and exchanged views on approaches to text covering trade in services.
The Legal and Other Issues Working Group discussed approaches to framework provisions (including dispute resolution) and other cross cutting issues. Intersessional work programs agreed in each working group will help to consolidate progress made at the round. Work programs include further exchanges of information and draft text covering trade in goods, services and investment.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade encourages interested parties to lodge a submission on the Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement. Industry consultation and the submission process will inform Australia's negotiating positions.
