The 21st round of free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations between Australia and China was held in Beijing on 1-5 September 2014.
Constructive discussions were held across all major subject areas as both sides worked to narrow remaining differences.
Good progress was made on the chapters relating to trade in goods, trade remedies, rules of origin, customs procedures and trade facilitation, technical barriers to trade, intellectual property and on dispute settlement. Further progress was made on trade in services text, including finalisation of scope and coverage of the chapter. Good progress was made on services and investment market access.
Further technical meetings and ongoing market access discussions are scheduled for September and October. Both sides are working to conclude negotiations in 2014. Although some important issues remain outstanding, the Australian and Chinese governments remain on track to achieve this goal.
We would be pleased to receive any updated submissions from industry or interested stakeholders.
