Guidance for Australian business

These opportunities include:

  • Greater market access
  • Reduced import tariffs in Japan
  • A more level playing field in Japan with both local and foreign firms

Key resources

Certificates of Origin

Reduced or zero tariffs are only available for goods that originate from Australia or Japan. If products satisfy the relevant 'rule(s) of origin', businesses should obtain a Certificate of Origin, or complete an Origin Certification Document to ensure that products receive the JAEPA preferential tariff rates.

The Australian Industry Group (AI Group) and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and affiliated bodies are authorised to certify origin for JAEPA ('Authorised Bodies'). Certificates of Origin can be obtained from either AI Group or from your State or Territory Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Alternatively, an importer, exporter or producer may choose to complete an Origin Certification Document (OCD). This is often referred to as self-certification.

The Australian Government, through Austrade, can provide about doing business in Korea, including how businesses in your sector are faring.
