Indonesia-Australia Business Week

The IABW will help create more export opportunities for Australian businesses by focusing on industry sectors where our expertise matches Indonesian commercial potential, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Steven Ciobo said this week. Minister Ciobo reiterated both countries are working diligently towards concluding the Indonesia Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement this year in an interview with ABC radio on 6 March.

"The gross value of agricultural production is forecast to hit a record $63.8 billion in 2016–17” and “the total value of Australian farm exports has now increased for six consecutive years in nominal terms, up $10 billion dollars from $38.2 billion in 2012–13 to a forecast $48.7 billion in 2017-18” the Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Barnaby Joyce said on Tuesday.

March business envoy puts Vietnam out front

New help for Australian businesses to expand internationally

The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) has launched a new digital tool to help Australian businesses plan for international expansion with a one-stop-shop that provides data-driven insights to support export plans. ANZ Be Trade Ready, produced in collaboration with the Export Council of Australia, offers businesses information about benchmarking, forecasting of revenue and capital requirements, as well as access to information on Free Trade Agreements.

2017 Essay Award for Young Economists

The WTO has issued a call for young economists to submit papers for the 2017 WTO Essay Award. The award aims to promote high-quality research on trade policy and international trade co-operation and to reinforce the relationship between the WTO and the academic community. Essays must be submitted by 2 June 2017.

Roberto Azevêdo reappointed WTO Director-General

Australia and other WTO members agreed by consensus to appoint Roberto Azevêdo for a second four-year term as Director-General. Mr Azevêdo, whose second term will begin on 1 September 2017, earlier outlined his vision for the future and took questions from the membership on challenges facing the organization.
