Australia Indonesia Basic Education Program: Independent completion report (May 2010) and management response

Summary of publication

This report reviews the $395 million Australia Indonesia Basic Education Program (AIBEP) (2005-2011). Overall, the report finds that AIBEP was implemented effectively and efficiently, and was a successful program.

The report states AIBEP was strongly consistent with and supportive of the Government’s policy which gives priority to social justice, improved governance and assuring equity and quality of basic education services. It found the program to be both effective and efficiently implemented with all four pillars achieving a good standard. The report provides key lessons and recommendations informing future investment in the sector.

The management response to the independent completion review notes that the report is comprehensive and provides practical recommendations and lessons to inform and guide future programming. The document reveals that AusAID agrees with the key recommendations, and partially agrees with the review team’s recommendation that AusAID’s should not overly influence design of the successor program.
