6.3 Honorary consuls

Posts headed by an honorary consul are entitled to customs duty exemptions on specific items imported for posts’ official use, including flags, coats of arms, signs, seals, stamps and printed matter. Motor vehicles are not included. Honorary consuls can also purchase excise and duty free, and claim refunds of GST and WET on, limited quantities of alcohol for one National Day function per year. Refund claims must be submitted on an honorary consul’s behalf by the supervising diplomatic mission or post headed by a career consul.
