Australian and Sri Lankan Sport Memorandum of Understanding

Australia is internationally recognised as successful, high-performing sporting nation.

Much of this success is due to the investment, planning and management the Australian Government puts into our domestic system to support community, development, and high performance sport.

Australia and Sri Lanka a long history of competition on the sporting field – from the Australian Services Cricket Team’s tour of Ceylon in 1946 to Sri Lanka’s 1996 ICC Cricket Word Cup final victory at the MCG.

Australia is also a long-term supporter of Sri Lankan sport. To increase this support, the Australian and Sri Lankan governments have signed a Sports Memorandum of Understanding to exchange sporting expertise and pursue professional development and mentoring opportunities.

The Australian Minister for Sport, Greg Hunt and Sri Lankan Minister for Sport, Dayasiri Jayasekara signed this MOU in Parliament House on 15 February 2017.
