Robyn Whitney (right) is a volunteer deaf education teacher trainer at Bhutan’s only school for the deaf, the Wangsel Institute. Robyn, who is deaf herself, is using her knowledge and experience to empower students and train teachers at the Institute. The Principal at Wangsel Institute says Robyn has helped the teachers gain a deeper understanding of deaf education and students’ needs because she is able to share her lived experience. In this photo Robyn is chatting in sign language with a student and his mother, Dechen Wangmo. The school trains parents as well as students in sign language.
