Project summary

The Beyond the City project examines how Chinese travelers can be dispersed more widely into regional Australia.  This has implications for visitor expenditure, as well as for economic development. Particular attention is placed on building knowledge about how the barriers to increasing length of stay and expenditure can be addressed.

With Chinese inbound tourism set for continued growth, this project is timely.  Central to this event is the bringing together of stakeholders/opinion leaders with knowledge concerning Chinese inbound tourism to Australia.

The implications for regional economies is potentially significant, especially insofar as employment, the development of small to medium enterprises and the expansion of inter-sectoral opportunities (for example agri-tourism, wine tourism and nature-based tourism).
