Project summary

The Australian Art Orchestra’s production, Water Pushes Sand is a new contemporary music work by Australian composers Erik Griswold and Vanessa Tomlinson, created through their fifteen years of cultural exchange experience with Sichuan musicians in Chengdu.

The work blends the sounds of western jazz improvisation and Sichuan folk opera in a vibrant and original work. Water Pushes Sand premiered at the OzAsia Festival, Adelaide and Melbourne Festival (2015) receiving wide acclaim.

The project will tour to 4 States/Territories in Australia in 2017 and to 10 locations in 4 cities in southern China (facilitated by Jiangsu Performing Arts Group) in 2017/2018 for a series of performances and workshops.
