AIC Priority Area: Social entrepreneurship

Project description

India and Australia each face a growing mass housing crisis. Each crisis shares a common requirement, to significantly increase the supply of low cost housing. A fundamental part of that increase must come from the rapid expansion of manufacturing and supply capability in mass housing prefabrication. India is developing world’s best practice in the use of precast concrete and sustainable alternatives such as gypsum. Australia is a world leader in the use of timber. This project will enable stakeholders in each jurisdiction to document and exchange knowledge about the respective manufacturing supply chains, policy contexts, market dynamics, and opportunities for trade. Based on study tours by leading experts in each country, case studies will be documented, discussed at public forums, and promoted through a knowledge exchange hub established specifically to strengthen ongoing bilateral relations between the construction industry and research sectors in both countries.
