Project description

The 21st Biennale of Sydney (2018), Superposition: Equilibrium and Engagement will feature a new commission by Indonesian artist Julian Abraham ‘Togar’ (born 1987) who will participate alongside some seventy distinguished artists from around the globe.

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Mami Kataoka, the distinguished Chief Curator at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, the Biennale of Sydney will celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2018. Superposition: Equilibrium and Engagement will present artworks which collectively offer a panoramic view of how opposing understandings and interpretations come together in a state of equilibrium, encouraging us to consider how all things of this world interact with each other. The 21st Biennale of Sydney will be held from 16 March until 11 June 2018 at multiple venues in Sydney including three UNESCO World Heritage Sites (the Sydney Opera House, Cockatoo Island and Hyde Park Barracks) and is free for all to attend. The exhibition is supported by a wide variety of public programs and events, including artist talks, guided tours and family days.

The Biennale of Sydney is an internationally renowned non-profit organisation that presents Australia’s largest contemporary visual arts event. It was the first periodic exhibition to be established in the Asia-Pacific region.
