On 29 August, the Foreign Minister, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, announced the successful Council for Australian-Arab Relations (CAAR) grant applicants for 2016-17, following strong interest in the program from across Australia and the Arab world.
The CAAR awarded funding to 12 innovative projects that promote mutual understanding between the peoples of Australia and the Arab world. Through these grants, the Australian Government will invest more than $300,000 to support a wide range of activities in arts and culture, skills exchanges, journalism, business and trade, education and gender initiatives that facilitate people-to-people and institutional linkages.
"On behalf of the CAAR Board, I congratulate the successful applicants in the 2016‑17 grants round. The high quality of the applications we received showcases the diversity and strength of the connections between the Australian community and communities across the Arab world." Sue Ismiel, CAAR Chair.
The CAAR grants program for 2017–18 will open in early 2017.
