DFAT NAIDOC Week Celebrations 2015

10 July 2015

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is committed to ensuring Australia is stronger, safer and more prosperous. We do this by promoting and protecting our interests internationally. A strong Australia values and embraces diversity, treats people with fairness and respect, and promotes reconciliation with Indigenous Australians.

During the week of 6 to 10 July, the Department celebrated NAIDOC week by hosting a flag raising on Monday 6 July to recognise and pay respects to the traditional owners of the land on which the Department is located, the Ngnunnawal and Ngambri peoples. This was followed by the DFAT Secretary’s reception with the Diplomatic Corps and community, which included a showcase performance by Bangarra Dance Theatre. Other celebrations included the NAIDOC Week seminar with Dr Anita Heiss, a story-telling session with Larry Brandy and the DFAT Social Club NAIDOC Charity Quiz night, raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
