Australian tennis program a hit in China

Tennis Australia recently ran a festival for school children in Shanghai to celebrate the success of the Australian Open Tennis in Schools pilot program. More than 250 children from six primary schools came together to play tennis, learn new skills and engage with other kids.

The program is part of the Australian Government’s Asian Sports Partnerships program, which is expanding Australia’s sport for development cooperation into Asia. Tennis Australia’s program, and others like it, are encouraging an increasingly sedentary youth to get moving and enjoy being active. By promoting an active lifestyle, encouraging gender equality in sport and creating opportunities for children to continue playing tennis, the program is improving the health and wellbeing of Shanghai kids.
