What is economic and commercial diplomacy?

The Foreign Policy White Paper outlined our commitment to bolster Australia’s international competitiveness and advocate for improved global frameworks and rules for business. During consultations, stakeholders were clear they wanted government to improve how it worked with business in order to deliver better commercial opportunities for Australians.

During consultations, we heard from the business community that government could improve its support for Australian companies seeking global opportunities, and improve the level of our ongoing, meaningful engagement with business.

In response, working closely with Austrade, we have launched a reinvigorated Economic and Commercial Diplomacy Agenda to ensure we strengthen our support for Australia’s commercial interests. The new Economic and Commercial Diplomacy Agenda builds on the success of the previous initiative by encouraging closer connections between government and business and engagement in a more systematic way.
