Minister Robb on the Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA)

JAEPA represents the highest quality trade deal that Japan has ever concluded according to the Trade and Investment Minister. In a recent op-ed Mr Robb says “Although JAEPA is not 100% liberating, we drove a hard bargain and secured major concessions that many thought were simply not possible”.

Foreign investment in Australia up by 11%

The stock of foreign investment in Australia grew 11% in 2013 to almost $2.5 trillion according to the ABS. Nearly two-thirds of the increase came from Australia's two largest investors, the US and the UK. China recorded a 41% increase in its stock of investment in Australia, making it Australia's 8th largest investor.

IMF: Asian region tipped to continue to be a "global growth leader"

Asia is positioned to remain the most “dynamic region of the global economy” according to the IMF. The outlook for Asia is for steady growth with GDP growth forecast to improve to 5.5% in 2014-15 with one of the chief drivers being demand from advanced economies.

Sydney most popular city in the world for international students

Sydney has been ranked as the most popular city worldwide for international students according to the A.T. Kearney Global Cities Index. Sydney is home to an estimated 50,000 international students and according to the Sydney Lord Mayor these students “contribute over $1.6 billion to the city’s economy”.

A majority of Americans support the TPP and increased trade with Japan

A majority of Americans want the US to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership according to the Pew Research Centre. Pew found that 55% of Americans believe the TPP is a good thing while just 25% view it as bad. The support appears to be driven by a desire among Americans to expand trade with Japan according to Pew.
