Australian Government response to earthquakes in Nepal. The department provided more than $28 million in response to the earthquakes of 25 April and 12 May in Nepal. Almost $12 million in emergency relief, including $5 million to the Nepal flash appeals including $1 million to the World Health Organisation and $1 million to the International Federation of the Red Cross to meet urgent health and shelter needs, including $1 million to the Australian Red Cross to provide critical first aid and distribute lifesaving relief supplies, $4 million to Australian NGOs to deliver water, sanitation, shelter and programs to target the needs of women and children, $500 thousand to RedR Australia to deploy Australian humanitarian experts to support United Nations, $50 thousand to support maternal and child health through the SPRINT initiative and humanitarian relief supplies for up to 10,000 people in the areas of shelter, water and hygiene and DFAT personnel to assist with coordination and assessments. $16 million to support early recovery efforts.
