Dr Axel Wabenhorst

Dr Wabenhorst is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Director, Afghanistan Political section.

He has previously served overseas as Australia’s Ambassador to Qatar and in Iran, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Dr Wabenhorst speaks Arabic and holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Oxford University (1996); and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from Monash University (1990).
