  • The Australian Government supported Vanuatu, following the devastating twin Tropical Cyclones Judy and Kevin and a 6.5 magnitude earthquake in early March 2023.

Kitchen Kits provide essential supplies – such as buckets and cooking pots and utensils – to support a household to cook basic meals and store drinking water.

  • On 15 January 2022, the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai underwater volcano erupted, triggering a devastating tsunami and blanketing many of Tonga’s islands in a thick layer of volcanic ash. Tragically, three lives were lost as a result of the tsunami, including two Tongan nationals and a British national. Serious injuries were also reported.

  • Australia's military air evacuation in Afghanistan was one of the largest humanitarian airlift operations in our history. Australia evacuated around 4,100 people on 32 flights from Kabul between 18 and 26 August 2021. The evacuation involved hundreds of Australian Defence Force personnel and government officials working together on the ground in Afghanistan, in Canberra and in the United Arab Emirates

  • For the third time since September 2017, the Manaro Voui volcano on Vanuatu's Ambae Island has produced thick ash fall and gas emissions. The latest cycle of eruptions has blanketed the island with ash, including in areas not previously impacted. Many parts of the island are uninhabitable due to the impact on housing, crops and water sources. The Government of Vanuatu declared a state of emergency on 12 April 2018.

  • On 26 February 2018, an earthquake of 7.5 magnitude at 9 km depth struck the Highlands region of Papua New Guinea, particularly Hela and Southern Highlands provinces, affecting approximately 270,000 people.

  • In May 2016 Sri Lanka was hit by severe weather that caused widespread flooding and deadly landslides. More than 100 people were killed by the disaster, which affected 24 of Sri Lanka's 25 districts.
