Summary of publication
This report outlines progress towards the objectives of the Australia Mongolia Country Strategy (2012–16). Overall, results in 2014–15 are satisfactory, with progress ratings maintained or improved since 2013–14.
2014–15 saw solid results from long-standing investments, the successful completion of the water and sanitation activity, and the mobilization of a new intervention in the extractives sector–the Australia Mongolia Extractives Program (AMEP). A new twinning arrangement between Melbourne Polytechnic College and the Dalanzadgad College, and the placement of an adviser in the Ministry of Labour, helped develop accredited technical and vocational education curricula that will help students meet industry's employment requirements. The school water and sanitation program exceeded its targets, with 9000 children benefiting from improved facilities and new national standards endorsed. DFAT established good relations with our new Government of Mongolia counterpart on the aid program, the Ministry of Finance. Performance benchmark targets for 2014-15 were achieved or partly achieved. All investments were highly relevant, and effectiveness and efficiency scores increased. Investments in 2014–15 are considered good to very good value for money. With a reduced aid budget to Mongolia from 2015-16 the program will strive to maintain program quality and achieve objectives while streamlining our activities.
