Fiji Community Climate Change Adaptation Program: supplementary design document (Pacific Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development)

Summary of publication

This documents details the proposed University of the South Pacific project to supplement the Australia-funded 2006 Climate Change Adaptation in Rural Communities of Fiji Project.

The proposal seeks supplementary funding of $447,000 to:

  • replicate pilot activities to raise awareness of climate change in three new sites (with serious water and coastal management problems)
  • improve adaptation work at the initial six pilot sites (e.g. workshops and practices to improve waste management, sustainable land management, and disaster preparedness)
  • evaluate the sustainability of all nine interventions and develop best-practice guidelines on adaptation options for water supply, flooding/inundation, coastal protection, reef management, and mangrove planting.
