This document details the October 2018 strategic end of term review of the Nauru Improved Education Partnership Investment.

The review, which covers the period from 2014 to 2018, assesses the investment of approximately $15 million, under the Australian bilateral program. The partnership covers education investments through four aid modalities:

  • Direct Funding Assistance for the Department of Education and Training (DoET) through an operational account to support implementation of Nauru's Education Sector Strategy 2017-2021
  • Technical Assistance through the placement of a Strategic Plan Implementation Advisor with the DoET
  • Infrastructure upgrades including to the Learning Village, which comprises Nauru Secondary School, the Technical and the Vocational Education and Training Centre, the University of South Pacific Nauru Campus and a Community Library, and
  • Scholarships at technical, under-graduate and graduate levels, through funding of Australia Award scholarships to Australian tertiary institutions and Australia Award Pacific Scholarships to Pacific regional institutions.

The review, conducted over the period March to June 2018, supports DFAT's improved performance and strategic planning in the education sector, under the wider Nauru Aid program.
