Summary
AusAID, in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the World Bank Group, have completed diagnostic missions on Pacific women in private sector development.
Description
In the Port Moresby Declaration, Mr Rudd announced that Australia would enhance private sector development and help Pacific Island Nations meet the Millennium Development Goals. A 2007 review of Pacific private sector development (PSD) activities recommended a more strategic approach and one that incorporated women.
AusAID, in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the World Bank Group, have completed diagnostic missions on Pacific women in private sector development. Various barriers to women doing business were uncovered, giving AusAID a refined understanding of private sector development issues. The Pacific Women in Private Sector Development initiative sits within the new Pacific private sector development framework.
