This report summarises the performance of Australia's aid program to Pakistan over the period of July 2016 to June 2017. In 2016-17 Australia provided $49.1 million in official development assistance to Pakistan. Expanding on the Pakistan Aid Investment Plan 2015-16 to 2018-19, the program now has three strategic objectives – generating inclusive economic growth and employment, investing in Pakistan's people with a focus on women and girls, and supporting stabilisation and resilience
Overall the Pakistan aid program is performing well in a challenging and complex operating environment with two out of three objectives on-track. Under our economic growth objective, our agribusiness and market development programs have achieved strong results, improving employment opportunities and incomes for small holder farmers and exceeding targets for women's economic empowerment. Our agricultural research program and trade policy program however, received less than satisfactory performance ratings and will be the subject of close senior management attention this year. Our human development objective, with a focus on women and girls, is on track, meeting performance targets for nutrition, education and gender-based violence services and delivering some excellent policy outcomes in priority areas at the federal and provincial levels. Progress towards our new resilience and stabilisation objective met expectations, noting that a number of programs under this objective were in their first year of implementation.
DFAT's management focus in 2017-18 will be on sustaining and enhancing performance in the area of gender equality, and progressing the integration of disability inclusive development and nutrition-sensitive approaches through our key programs. We will also undertake a review of our Aid Investment Plan for Pakistan over the coming year.
