Pakistan Women’s Economic Empowerment and Market Development Project: design document

Summary of publication

Prepared by the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP), this document outlines the program objectives and the design and implementation arrangements for the Project for Women's Economic Empowerment and Market Development.

The program takes a community-driven development approach, seeking to boost incomes of poor rural communities , particularly women by stimulating local economic development and diversifying livelihood opportunities.

The main activities of the program are identifying and developing selected value chains in target districts, setting up of Community Investment Funds, trade identification and the delivery of technical and vocational skills, and supporting small-scale entrepreneurs.

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to sustainable livelihoods for the poor and women in border districts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. This will be achieved through two outcomes. The first is increased employment opportunities, market access and incomes for poor and marginalised groups, particularly women; and the second is for women to have greater participation in and benefit from economic activities.
