Summary of publication
Describes the objectives, activities, costs and management arrangements for the first phase of a 10-15 year partnership between Australia and Vanuatu to improve how the relevant departments manage and maintain Vanuatu's transport infrastructure.
The design responds to a Government of Vanuatu request for transport sector assistance considering its importance for broad-based and inclusive economic growth and service delivery. The four planned results are to improve/increase the following aspects of the transport sector:
- Government of Vanuatu management;
- quality of public expenditure management;
- role of a competitive private sector and community groups; and
- use of labour based appropriate technologies.
The results will be achieved through technical assistance and financing managed through the Public Works Department using Government of Vanuatu systems where practicable.
