Australia is helping Indonesia to respond to the Central Sulawesi earthquake and tsunami.

On 28 September a 7.5 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck Central Sulawesi, Indonesia:

• 2.4 million people affected
• Over 2,000 lives lost
• At least 210,000 people displaced

The Australian Defence Force is supporting the Indonesian Government response:

• 9 C-130 flights with supplies and equipment from Darwin to Balikpapan
• 1 C-17 flight with supplies from Subang, Malaysia to Balikpapan
• 1 C-130 continuing to deliver supplies from Balikpapan to Palu

Australia has committed $10.25 million.

This will help more than 195,000 people through our humanitarian partners including:

• providing access to shelter, sanitation and clean water for 80,000 people through the Indonesian Red Cross
• reaching nearly 60,000 people with health, sanitation and hygiene support through Australian NGOs and their local partners
• providing hygiene and reproductive health assistance to over 25,000 women and girls through UN agencies and international and local NGOs

Australia is also providing relief supplies to around 30,000 people, including:

• 2 x 5,000 litre water tanks
• 8 generators
• 500 water filtration systems
• 726 family tents and 12 community tents
• 856 shelter tool kits containing ropes, tools and nails
• 1,424 tarpaulins
• 1,400 blankets and 1,400 sleeping mats
• 840 bed nets
