Australia delivers greater transparency and accountability in international development

The Australian Government is delivering on its commitment to a more transparent, accountable and impactful international development program.

Today marks the achievement of two major transparency milestones under the International Development Policy:

  1. AusDevPortal — an innovative online transparency portal providing unprecedented access to data on Australia’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) investments; and
  2. Recommencement of International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) reporting — re-establishing Australia’s alignment with global aid transparency benchmarks.

AusDevPortal offers searchable data on over 900 ODA projects supported by Australia in the 2022–23 financial year, representing $4.78 billion in investments across 122 countries. The portal includes information such as:

  • project descriptions
  • annual expenditure and total investment values
  • geographic locations
  • policy markers
  • performance scores, and
  • key documents like project evaluation and design reports.

For the first time, Australians and international partners can easily access comprehensive data about Australia’s development efforts, enabling greater visibility, accountability, and confidence in the program.

These measures are complemented by new accountability mechanisms, including the Performance and Delivery Framework (PADF) and Performance of Australian Development Cooperation (PADC) report, alongside existing reporting tools like DFAT’s annual reports, the ODA Statistical Summary, and OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) reports.

By enhancing transparency, the Australian Government is ensuring a development program that is more effective, responsive and aligned with the highest standards of accountability, delivering meaningful results for communities worldwide.
