Bilateral relations

Australia has a constructive bilateral relationship with Azerbaijan. Diplomatic relations were established in 1992. Azerbaijan has an Embassy in Canberra, and Australia’s Ambassador to Türkiye has non-resident accreditation to Azerbaijan. Parliamentary delegations have visited each other’s countries. The Azerbaijani parliament has an Australian parliamentary friendship group. The Azerbaijani community in Australia underpin our people-to-people links.

Australia recognises the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and supports the ongoing efforts of the governments of Azerbaijan and Armenia towards a just and lasting peace.

Australia and Azerbaijan engage within international organisations, including the Asian Development Bank. Australian companies have provided services to the oil and gas sector in Azerbaijan and have supplied vessels to the Azerbaijani coast guard. The State Fund of Azerbaijan has invested in Australian assets.
